You can make this for dinner on a weeknight and have dinner to your table in about 45 minutes! You can also use a crockpot for this meal. If you do, you dont have to cook anything beforehand. Just toss it all into the crockpot and let it cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
Since I am Italian, maybe you can say this is the Italian version of goulash...lol The zita pasta gives it away...
My version of goulash
- 1 pound ground turkey
- ½ onion, diced
- 5 cloves of garlic
- Olive oil, to coat pan
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 1, 15 oz. can diced tomatoes, no salt added
- 1, 15 oz. can crushed tomatoes and 1 can water
- 1 tsp sea salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp. oregano, dried and crushed
- 1 tsp. basil, dried and crushed
- 2 cups ziti pasta
- ½ cup shredded cheese
- Sprinkle of shredded Parmesan cheese to top
Add olive oil into a wok or larger pot.
Add onions and garlic and allow to lightly brown.
Add ground turkey and cook.
Add water and broth.
Add both cans of tomatoes.
Add spices.
Simmer for 15 minutes.
Add pasta.
Cook for 15 to 20 minutes.
Add cheese and stir.
Top each bowl with Parmesan cheese, to taste.
